BERNAYS, Robert. "Naked Fakir".

London. Victor Gollancz Ltd., 1931. First edition.
8vo. 351pp, [1]. With half-title. Original publisher's black cloth, lettered in gilt to spine. Lightly rubbed and marked, with chipping to head of spine. Inked ownership inscription to FEP. Leaves lightly browned, spotting throughout.
The first edition of Liberal politician Robert Hamilton Bernays' (1902-1945) autobiographical account of his 'Indian experience' - in particular, his time spent with Mahatma Gandhi. The title, in quotation marks, is drawn from an insult Churchill had famously slung at the freedom fighter; Bernays, however, attempts to report on the political activities in India without bias or conjecture.
