The immensely popular memoir of colonial governor and Middle Eastern specialist Sir Ronald Storrs (1881-1955). Storrs served alongside T. E. Lawrence in the Arab Bureau, and became an intimate associate; he was described by Lawrence in Seven Pillars of Wisdom (London, 1935) as 'the first, and the great man among us'.
