'Darling Joannie' is Joan Plowright (b.1929), award winning actress, and Laurence Olivier's third wife. Sheridan Morley (1941-2007) is an award-winning theatre critic, biographer, and broadcaster, who published twenty biographies of stars of the stage and screen throughout his career, including the first official biography of Noel Coward.

John Gielgud (1904-2000) was an English actor and theatre director who was part of 'the trinity' of 20th century stage acting, along with Laurence Olivier and Ralph Richardson. The rear panel of the dustwrapper of his biography reads 'The authorised biography of the greatest classical actor of all time.'
