The first edition in English of select verse by Finnish poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg (1804-1877), translated from the Swedish (the language in which Runeberg opted to write) by English orientalist and explorer Edward Henry Palmer (1840-1882) and Eirikr Magnusson (1833-1913), librarian and Icelandic scholar at the University of Cambridge, who notably taught Old Norse to William Morris (1834-1896).
