The provincially published first edition of sometime Newcastle miner, later teacher, Thomas Wilson's (1773-1858) Durham dialect verse capturing the essence of pit-life, 'an humble attempt to describe the manners and habits of the pitmen of this populous and important district', explaining the apparent improvement of the lot of the workers 'since the days of the "Collier's Wedding"'.
