Contemporary gilt-tooled calf, contrasting morocco lettering-piece, all edges red. Lightly rubbed and marked, joints starting, loss to head of spine of Vol. I. Marbled endpapers, inked ownership inscriptions and characteristic shelf-marks of the Earl of Orrery to verso of FFEPs, recent armorial bookplate of Watkin Herbert Williams to FEP of Vol. II.
The only extant work confidently ascribed to fourth century Roman historian Sextus Aurelius Victor; an abridgement of imperial biographies from Augustus to Constantius II, here edited by Dutch historian Samuel Pitiscus (1637-1727).

This copy has had the distinction of residing in the libraries of author, and friend of Jonathan Swift, Alexander Pope, and Samuel Johnson, John Boyle, 5th Earl of Cork and 5th Earl of Orrery (1707-1762) and sometime Bishop of Bangor (1899-1925), and active Freemason, Watkin Herbert Williams (1845-1944).
